Industry
I am a Control Engineer at Trimble where I work in a joint venture, Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies (CTCT), developing autonomous and semi-autonomous machine control products.
Previously I was a Staff Researcher within the Electrical and Control Systems Lab at General Motors Research. I specialized in fault-tolerant vehicle control, vehicle health management and prognostic systems.
Academic
I have a BSc (Hons) in Cybernetics, from the University of Reading, England, and an MSc in Science in Control Systems from the University of Sheffield, England. I also completed a PhD in Control Engineering at the University of Sheffield. My doctorial dissertation is on the emergent properties of complex systems. This examines global properties of systems that are governed by simple, locally acting rules.
I was a Research Fellow in the Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering Department at Loughborough University on active suspension control, intelligent automotive systems and integrated chassis control systems.
I am a senior member of the IEEE, and have over 30 peer reviewed papers and more than 30 issued US patents.
Personal
I was born in Uganda, grew up in the south of England, lived in the US, in Michigan, for 11 years and have spent the last 7 years in Christchurch, New Zealand. I am married with two children.
